The City of Mankato has declared a snow emergency, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Thursday night.
Cars must be removed from city streets so the plows can get in and cart off all of the recent snowfall. The only exception is areas that are posted “seasonal no parking” but officials say that only includes a small number of streets.
Temporary parking is available at no cost in the Mankato Place and Civic Center Parking ramps during snow emergencies and city staff says parking is also allowed in yards during a snow emergency.
Cars that are removed from the street will be ticketed and towed, and city officials say the citation includes a $25 fine and the tow fee is just under $120. They add that vehicles towed north of East Main Street can be reclaimed at Affordable Towing and those towed south of East Main Street can be reclaimed at All American Towing.
The snow emergency is expected to be lifted at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning.
