A short section of the Highway 14 construction project in New Ulm is expected to open Friday afternoon.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the completed section of the New Ulm Gateway project is between the intersection of Broadway and 7th Street and the new roundabout at Front Street, and drivers will also be able to use the new Highway 14/15 bridge over Front Street after about 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

MnDOT officials are reminding people that it’s a two-year project and that the current detour using Nicollet County Road 37/20th Street South will remain in place over the winter. A new detour will be necessary next spring complete the Highway 14/15 interchange.
